In a time of great crisis the board of directors of the BLFB and myself made a conscious decision to not only address epidemic need in our community, but to change every aspect of how we address hunger. We did so with great speed, dignity, and innovation because a basic human right like food is not a subject matter you can pause to think about. You must move...and move quickly.
We do not have a common story in the world of nonprofit. Especially not common when you consider all this growth and progress happened amid a global pandemic. We looked at it head on and seized the opportunity to improve not just our organization...but the way human beings are treated. There was not a playbook for such a crisis, so we created our own. We were one part bold, one part strategic, and all parts humanitarian. And in this, we grew.

We will emerge from the pandemic a different organization than when we went into it.
