I was introduced to this incredible Bellevue-based nonprofit a year ago. Founded by Katherine Kehrli in April 2020, this organization activates communities in the fight against hunger by creating neighborhood-based volunteer baking brigades that have now popped up in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and California.
This brigade has grown to 784 bakers, 59 neighborhood hubs, and 41 Foodbank partners. Each delicious, nutritious whole grain loaf or Grab ‘N Go Energy Cookie is lovingly baked at home from all Washington-sourced ingredients using the Community Loaves signature recipes.
And guess what? We have a hub in our Bonney Lake community-based in Tehaleh! Twelve fantastic volunteer bakers have delivered 560 loaves of bread and 890 Energy Cookies. Like clockwork, this happens twice a month and right to our porch. Sandy Merritt-Shea, the Hub Coordinator here in Bonney Lake, coordinates the logistics with all the volunteers and ensures we receive our freshly baked twice monthly donations.
What a fantastic day today as we welcomed these generous and talented Tehaleh bakers and the organization’s founder and CEO, Katherine. They toured The Market and saw the heart and soul of what we do and why their donations are so important.
As Katherine says….we are all Breader Together 🥖
Thank you to each of the 12 members that make fresh and nutritious bread at The Market possible!
