The Table
All that remains…
The vintage fruit stand cooler (that stood at a mammoth 20x30 foot size) has been removed and the contractor told me how dangerous it would be to try and keep it another year. The roof panels took on water and weighed more than what the structure could support. It would have only been a matter of time before it caved, hopefully when no one was in it.
My gut knew it. Just like my gut knew when we auctioned a fleet of broken trucks before grants came in, recycled a smoking forklift when we couldn’t afford to replace it, and when we left a building that was falling in on itself to move to a farm that needed a lot of work. Each time I knew it was a big gamble….but I chose to bet on ourselves and our safety. Each time, it turned out better than I could have imagined. I can’t wait to see our new walk in cooler and freezer, paid in full by the WSDA.
I stood in the rain and marveled at how far we have come. Glancing down I saw one nut that hadn’t washed away when I hosed off the now empty concrete pad. Fun fact, every time we improve our circumstances…I keep a souvenir of our past to keep me grounded and put it in my desk drawer so I can look at it. This nut, is now part of the collection. The future is bright.
